If you have a residential project coming up, then you need a way to safely and easily dispose of debris and excess materials. Trying to haul everything away yourself will simply take more time and you may not even have the vehicles or equipment to do it.

Instead of doubling the length of time your project takes, you can be free to continue it without interruption with one of our container rentals throughout Kansas City and Southern Jackson County. But one of the common questions we get is what kinds of things people can or can’t put in their residential dumpster rentals. Below is a list you can use to see if our residential dumpster service is the right choice for you:

What You Can Put in Your Residential Dumpster

  • Heavy Materials
  • Shingles
  • Concrete / Bricks / Soil
  • Most electronic devices
  • Appliances
  • Yard Waste (must rent a separate container)
  • Household items & waste
  • Paper / Plastics / Glass
  • Furniture
  • Construction / Remodeling Debris

What You Cannot Put in Your Residential Dumpster

While there is quite a lot that you can put into the dumpster, there are certain restrictions. We strive to be great stewards of our environment and neighborhoods at Small Haul Containers. Furthermore, there are certain local and national restrictions on disposing of certain materials and substances. Below is a list of items that cannot be thrown away in your rental dumpster :

  • Oil Drums or Oil Tans
  • Highly flammable liquids or materials
  • Bio-medical waste
  • Paint or Paint cans
  • Chemicals, including Freon
  • Solvents of any kind
  • Infectious waste
  • Liquids of any kind
  • Toxic or Hazardous Materials
  • Radioactive waste

In essence, you can throw almost anything away in the dumpster except for harmful chemicals and liquids. This is to ensure the safety of you and our drivers, as well as to respect the environment. Now that you know what kind of items can be tossed away, here are some projects you should consider renting a roll off dumpster for:

Project Types

House Moving / Cleanup

Moving is part of life and can tend to get a little hectic. In addition to packing up all of your worldly belongings and organizing your family’s transportation to your new home, you also have to think about how to dispose of all your old stuff, junk, debris, and waste. Whether you’re getting rid of old electronics, bags of clothes, or kitchen trash, our dumpsters can handle it all.

Basement Renovation

One of the bonuses of living in the midwest is that we get extra room in the form of basements. Our friends on the coasts aren’t usually so lucky. We can store extra items and remodel our basements to create multiple rooms for family, entertainment areas, or even workshops for our hobbies. However, most basements are made of concrete and contain old appliances, boxes of junk, metal weldings, and other dirty objects to dispose of.

When you are remodeling your upstairs areas, you might be able to get away with throwing a few things downstairs in the unused basement for the time being. But you can’t very well toss a used furnace or dusty bedspring in your living room for a month. That’s where our residential dumpster service comes in. Haul the junk into the dumpster and then we haul it away so you never have to deal with it again.

Bathroom Remodel

When you upgrade your bathroom, you can enjoy a more modern aesthetic. However, it also boosts your asking price if you plan to sell your home soon. But not many residential trash services are going to pick up your bathtub, vanity, or floor tiles. With a convenient roll off dumpster that fits right in your driveway, you can put your focus on doing the job at hand and let us worry about disposing of the leftovers.

Kitchen Renovation

One of the first things that potential buyers will notice when taking a tour of your home is your kitchen. If you are remodeling it, however, there are a lot of large items you may need to throw away. This can include ovens, stoves, refrigerators, lights, countertops, and flooring. That’s not to mention random pieces of plywood here and there. Our container rentals are perfect for kitchen projects of any size, and make everything go quicker.

Garage Cleanup

As we mentioned above, there are chemicals and liquids that are not allowed in our rental containers for legal, environmental, and safety reasons. However, pretty much everything else is fair game. From old tools, to scraps of wood and metal you’ve been hanging onto, it’s time to rent a dumpster so you can use your garage for your passion projects, storage, or an actual parking space like it was intended.

Landscaping and Outdoor Cleanup

Most outdoor projects involve large structures and pieces of wood, metal, concrete, or shingles. Whether you are performing a roofing upgrade, deck construction, landscaping cleanup, or any other outdoor project, a residential dumpster service is your best bet to keep everything under control. Keep in mind that all yard waste will need to be in it’s own separate container.

Storm Cleanup

Cleaning up after disaster strikes is an unfortunate reality for us in the KC area. From tornadoes to thunderstorms, to hail that breaks windows and damages our homes, there are many reasons you might need residential dumpster rentals from time to time. But don’t worry, they can handle your glass, bricks, windows, house debris, and virtually any kind of waste that you need to cleanup after a major storm.
